The Vista Verde Riding Program offers fun-filled, informative activities with a touch of adventure that accommodates all riding levels. Our Kid’s Wranglers get the youngsters started in the arena, but soon move out on the trail. Kid’s rides are available daily. However, family rides are a popular option. In addition to riding, kids have the opportunity to learn how to feed and groom their horses and also tend other ranch animals. The teens have exclusive teen rides as well as the option of riding with adults.

Families and fun are the major focus of summer at Vista Verde. The goals of family fun hikes are to give the entire family a fun-filled experience. One such outing is to Gilpin Falls, a short duration, low intensity, and mild terrain type hike. We want the youngsters to have a great experience and develop a joy of being active in nature. Such an experience translates to fun-filled memories. There are plenty of snacks in our backpacks to munch, plenty of family photo opps and plenty of mountain air to help digest the magic.

| Recreational Activities : Backcountry Skiing |
There is a perfect balance between invigorating exercise and relaxing tranquility when you are out in the backcountry on skis. Whether you are a novice or an accomplished powder hound, you will find your personal paradise somewhere on the thousands of acres of National Forest that surround us. You can ski on a frozen lake, across an open meadow, through the aspens or pine groves, at the bottom of a ravine with dramatic rock outcroppings, or up a mountainside, then down the other side. The views and vistas and the sounds of silence are fabulous.

| Recreational Activities : Bicycle Tours |
Vista Verde offers a variety of mountain biking opportunities. We have some awesome biking trails and trips lead by our energetic guides. For those of whom this may by a new adventure, we access some wonderful four-wheel drive roads in the National Forest. These roads are terrific for learning the basic skills of this kind of biking. For the novice, we have some great single track that is non-technical, cross country riding and mostly DOWNHILL. Honest! For those who are experienced, we have a number of trails that will challenge and satisfy your quest for more and better.

The crystal clear mountain water of the quiet lakes and rushing streams of Vista Verde make for some of the best fishing in America. Our guides are very knowledgeable about the area waters and strive to create a unique experience with one-on-one instruction and some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable.

Vista Verde offers hikes for every interest. Your choices range from mild, wildflower walks to all-day challenging adventures above the timberline. As with all our activities, our guides will tailor the experience to your desires. Our backyard is laced with terrific hiking trails. Located in the Routt National Forest close to the Zirkel Wilderness Area, Vista Verde is only a hoot and a holler from a host of trailheads that lead to extraordinary hiking.

The Vista Verde Riding Program offers fun-filled, informative activities with a touch of adventure that accommodates all riding levels. With a remuda of over 80 horses, we match each guest’s personality with the perfect “horse-anality” to get you off on the right hoof, ‘er foot. Our riding program is about much more than beautiful trail rides. Even those who have ridden all their lives have been known to learn or experience something new while at VVR.

| Recreational Activities : Mountain / Rock Climbing |
If you've never climbed before or have only climbed in an indoor gym, you just can’t miss this twice weekly trip! Following a short hike up the climbing rock, you spend a few hours learning the basics of climbing and rapelling. The guides get rave reviews every time for the fact that they an challenge strong climbers while at the same time east the nerves of those of us who don’t like the leave ol’ terra firma. The adventure takes place just up the road in the National Forest, and the scenery on top is beautiful.

| Recreational Activities : Rafting |
One of the more action-packed adventures is a daylong river-rafting trip. The Eagle River and the Colorado River, both provide wonderful trips, suited to families with youngsters. The outfitters provide duckies (inflatable kayaks) for those seeking a little more adventure and independence on the trip. The rivers are both about a two-hour drive from the ranch. Transportation is provided and you can bring your pillow to sleep on the drive or just enjoy the fabulous scenery. The rafting is included in your package and is fully guided.

| Recreational Activities : Snowshoe Tours |
The joy of snowshoeing is getting out and soaking up the backcountry without having to worry about technique or form. With some simple pointers about going up and down hills, off you go. If you would like, a guide can take you on a tour up to Hinman Lake, the Cliffs or somewhere even further away from the ranch.
